The team at Brewfist is never short of creativity when it comes to brew new and exciting beers, and the idea of a celebrative barley wine to mark their 7th anniversary sounded particularly enticing. Besides that, they gave us total freedom to create a premium packaging system with a classic look suitable for a collector’s item.
We borrowed the visual language of traditional spirits and liqueurs, and made an extensive research on all the materials, printing techniques and embellishments we could choose from. On the background of the label, we illustrated the Roman cathedral of Lodi Vecchia, a village not far from Brewfist, reimagined as a working brewery. The richly detailed lettering Vecchia Lodi is a homage to Italian sign painting heritage, and we chose copper foil as the hero colour accent. The negative space was filled with ghost embossing that really pops out thanks to the high density of the paper Fasson Centaur Ivoire from Avery Dennison. The neck of the label features a seal across the crown cap with the year’s vintage. Every bottle comes individually packaged in a custom printed gift case with a monochrome version of the label design.
Vecchia Lodi is now the jewel in the brewery’s portfolio and a highly awaited release every autumn. So we created a flexible system of progressive vintages, each one with a distinctive foil block.
